JITSUVAX Training

Collaboration on brand strategy, design of visual identity and brand guidelines, design for training materials, promotional print design, illustration

  • The EU-funded JITSUVAX Project was set up by a team of scientists, psychologists, clinicians and experts in response to the global spread of vaccine misinformation. It was led by a team at Bristol University. They developed tools to understand and tackle vaccine misinformation by improving vaccine conversations in healthcare and other settings.

They needed to create a suite of training materials targeted at health workers. Some of the concepts are complex and they needed to find effective ways to communicate them using thoughtful diagrams and illustrations.

A social enterprise – JITSUVAX Training – was also born out of the project with the aim implementing the training developed by the project in a sustainable way. This also required a distinct brand identity and rebranded set of training and promotional materials.

  • I carried out initial research into the target audience and competitive landscape. With the help of the JITSUVAX team, we developed customer personas and journeys. I co-facilitated a brand strategy workshop with a copywriter, which formed the basis of the brand strategy.

From there, I developed the visual identity, including a logo and colour coding system for the training materials that is integrated into the brand assets. In careful consultation with the team, I created a new set of illustrations to help explain key concepts, while avoiding inappropriate ('scary') imagery. I also developed a new set of sympathetic character illustrations to accompany vaccine conversation dialogues.

I carried out the visual design for a suite of training resources, including slides, handouts, handbooks and facilitator guides. I created various templates and designed merchandise, handling the print processes for all printed deliverables. I also provided some art direction for the photography and website design.

  • The social enterprise has a clear and coherent visual identity which has been consistently applied across training and promotional materials.

Course participants have given positive feedback on the learning resources. The courses have been fully booked and the organisation is already having an impact.
