At this point she knew she was ready to realise her dream of bringing a package of bespoke marketing services to ambitious foreign trade companies China. What's more, the challenging global economic climate convinced her that these services were needed more than ever.
And so, with the dulcet sounds of the ripples and waves of Xiamen's delightful beaches still resounding in her ears, Nicola set out on a mission to to turn the small ripples of consistent marketing efforts into larger waves of progress for Chinese foreign trade companies.

A global pandemic – a new start
Ripples & Waves was founded by British graphic designer and translator Nicola Farey, in 2020. Nicola spent 12 years studying, working and raising a family in the beautiful island city of Xiamen. She has a first-class degree in Chinese with Business from Xiamen University and has translated a wide range of texts, including UNESCO World Heritage applications, BRICS visitor guides, government white papers and corporate comms and marketing materials for companies like Sinochem. She also worked on the translations of two published books.
Having studied graphic design at Leeds University of the Arts, she went on to gain experience working as a packaging designer at Chinese bath & body giant, Landy International.
A creative agency for Chinese foreign trade comapnies is born
Returning to the UK in 2019, Nicola set up Ripples and Waves as a design company serving clients in both the UK and China. She trained in web design and began creating beautiful, user-friendly websites for clients, including a Bristol University public health study and a luxury interior design and furnishings company. She also began collaborating with talented copywriters, web developers, digital marketers and branding experts in the UK.
